My first 5K

A friend convinced me, I (me?) Stacey, could start running. Laughable, right?! Well, after 2 weeks of "training" I tackled my first 5K! (yes, I walked and ran) I enlisted the help of my friend Ashley and together (she offered to carry me!) we did it. I was so excited! I can't wait for the next one (Sept. 25th)! I am dealing with shin splints. Ouchy! But, I am determined to make this a part of our lives. Haha! Stay tuned for news on the 5K I am doing in October that has obstacles like a 20 ft. mud pit. Yep, that is what I said MUD!!!! LuvMud!

Stacey - make sure you stretch your calves. Fill some paper cups about 2/3 full with water, then freeze them. After you run, rub the ice cups up and down your shins (ice massage) for 5-7 minutes. In about 2 weeks they should get better. Ibuprofen (sparingly) won't hurt either!
